What is reiki?

Reiki is a gentle, non-invasive form of energy work in which the practitioner uses their hands and the client's life force energy to activate mind, body, and spirit healing. The word Reiki comes from the Japanese word (Rei) which means “Universal Life” and (Ki) which means “Energy”. There are many methods of reiki, most of which are non-touch. My lineage of reiki is of the New Usui school which incorporates very little touch.

Will receiving reiki interfere with my spiritual/religious practice?

No. Reiki is a healing technique. It is not affiliated with any particular religion or religious practice. One can receive reiki regardless of spiritual or religious beliefs.

What can I expect during a reiki session?

Reiki sessions are typically 60-90 minutes and are usually performed on a client who is fully reclined comfortably on a massage table or chair. Clients are fully dressed in loose, comfortable clothing. Prior to the session there is an intake process and a brief consultation to discuss wellness goals and intentions for the session. Sessions begin with aromatherapy, meditation, and breathing exercises to relax the client. Once the client is in a relaxed state the reiki is activated and the full session starts. Sessions may also include sound and crystal therapy.

During a session clients may feel one or more of the following sensations: deep relaxation, sleepiness, heat, coolness, tingling, heaviness, throbbing, or a variety of emotional responses. Some may not feel anything at all while others may feel such symptoms after the session is over.

Do I need multiple sessions?

It depends on your individual needs. For some, one session is enough while others may need a series of sessions.

Is reiki for chronic or severe conditions?

If you have a chronic or severe condition it is always best to consult with a licensed medical professional as reiki is not meant to replace traditional medicine. However reiki is an excellent compliment to your wellness plan.

What is ancestor reverence?

Ancestor reverence is the indigenous practice of acknowledging and honoring the deceased members of one’s bloodline. There are many practices for ancestor worship depending on the culture but all practices serve to create an open channel of communication between the individual, or community, and their ancestors. The idea is that our ancestors serve as divine guides that help us to overcome both personal and generational challenges.

Do I have to be a part of a religion to practice ancestor reverence?

No, though evidence of ancestor reverence can be found in many religions. Ancestor reverence is a standalone spiritual practice that can be done no matter what religion one adheres to.

What is an ancestor session?

This is a specific type of mediumship that offers direct communication between the client and their ancestors.

What is a medium?

A medium is an individual who has the ability, training, and skill to communicate with the spiritual realm. Mediums act as a “go between” us and the dead.

Is there an age limit for readings?

Not at all! Readings can be done for children as young as a few months to seasoned elders.

How do I know what type of reading is best for me?

It truly depends on your intention and need. Tarot generally focuses on what is immediately present in the clients life, identifies any obstacles, and how to fix them. Mediumship readings are conducted in the Spiritist tradition and focus on identifying guiding spirits in the client's spiritual court and any messages they may have for the client. And bone divinations provide information on the clients past, present, and future as well as any spiritual messages that may be of importance.

Can the readings determine which Orisha, Lwa, etc walk with me?

While connections to spiritual lineages can come up in a reading, none of the divinations currently offered are the proper method for determining guardian Orishas, Lwa, etc. If it is determined that a client has a possible path in a spiritual lineage then at that point they are referred to the appropriate elder to investigate the matter further through the proper protocols.
